The Canon EF-S 18-55 mm is a zoom lens for Canon EOS SLR cameras with an EF-S mount. It is supplied as standard. The lens can be used in Canon DSLR cameras with a crop factor of 1.6. This 18-55 focal length lens converts to 29-88 mm due to the common crop factor of 1.6. The lens aperture is 3.5-5.6. The Canon EF-S 18-55 lens comes in all standard "Double Kit" and "Kit" kits for entry-level cameras. At the moment, the 18-55mm Mark I is a popular cheap modification of the "kit" lens for Canon cameras.
The first modification of the 18-55 mm Mark I was produced in 2003, and was supplied for the Canon EOS 300D camera as standard "Kit" and "Double Kit". And also a separate modification of the lens with a USM motor (ultrasonic) was produced. But he (Mark I) is discontinued. It was replaced by a second generation 18-55 mm lens - Mark II.
- 18-55 mm Mark II:
The lens was upgraded in 2006 and became the Mark II. This modification of the lens began to be supplied at that time in the kit with the Canon 400D and Canon 350D.
The 18-55 mm Mark II lens was also produced with an ultrasonic motor (USM). But it was also discontinued.
The first two modifications of the 18-55mm lens had many disadvantages.
18-55 mm IS:
In 2008, the 18-55 Mark II lens was obsolete, and it was completely updated and was named the EF-S 18-55 mm IS. The lens is now manufactured on the latest optical scheme, as well as on the basis of optics of a higher class. This helped to achieve a high definition of the image. The EF-S 18-55 mm f / 3.5-5.6 IS now uses an aspherical element, which is very important.
This lens has a built-in Image Stabilizer, a rounded aperture and a Super Spectra lens coating. Unwanted reflections or ghosting won't bother you. they won't actually exist. The quality of the lens construction has become much better - it has gaskets, the lens is protected from dust and moisture. The lens is distributed as a "standard" lens for Canon 450D, 500D, 550D and Canon 1000D cameras.
