Dust, dirt, water, in most cases, all these factors become an annoying obstacle to capturing stunning plots. Sometimes, an equally difficult problem is fixing the recording device, because it is not always possible to hold it in your hands. With the GoPro HD Hero 2 camera, you can forget about all these inconvenient nuances.
Equipped with a fixed wide-angle lens with a stunning 170-degree field of view. Moreover, its aperture ratio is f / 2.8 units. 1 / 2.3-inch digital matrix CMOS architecture with a resolution of 11 megapixels. Extremely compact and portable, one of the most important characteristics of the Hero 2. The dimensions of the body are very small, its dimensions are 42x30x60 mm, and the camera weighs only 94 grams. The shell is made of durable polycarbonate combined with stainless steel. The camera has flat surfaces on all sides, and only its front part is slightly distinguished by protruding optics. 
On the front panel, in addition to the lens, there is a large signal LED, as well as a tiny monochrome display with the most necessary information during the shooting. One of only two video camera control buttons is located next to the screen. 
The upper part of the case is reserved for the second ShutterSelec button, another LED signaling recording and microphone holes. 
On the left side are analog stereo audio and composite video outputs, a USB port, and an external microphone jack. 
On the back there is a proprietary Hero Bus connector, a battery compartment under a protective metal cover and an LED. The Hero 2's battery is good enough for 2.5 hours of video recording. 
On the right side of the case there is an HDMI port and slots for SD and SDHC memory cards. The maximum allowable volume of flash drives is 32 GB.
The bottom of the chamber is set aside for a small beeper that emits a characteristic sound when the buttons are pressed and another LED indicator.
GoPro HD Hero 2 is available in three trim levels: 1. outdoor edition, 2. motorsports edition, 3. surf edition.
Together with the camera, the user will receive a waterproof box capable of withstanding a depth of 60 meters and special mounts, depending on the configuration. 
In the outdoor edition - a device that helps to mount the camera on a helmet, in the motorsports edition - a vacuum suction cup for attaching, for example, to a car, and in the surf edition - a mount to a surfboard. 
Among other accessories, GoPro offers individual devices, such as, for example: an additional LCD display, a special box for using two cameras at the same time, which allows 3D shooting, a WI-FI connector for direct transmission of footage, and a device that allows you to use two battery at the same time. 
There is simply no great variety of settings and modes in the GoPro HD Hero 2 camera, and, probably, they are not needed there. The user can set the angle of view for shooting a photo or video, since the camera lens is fixed, and there are no mechanics that change the position of the lenses inside, the view changes with the help of a matrix crop.
The following video recording modes are available: 1. Full HD 1080p at 25 frames per second and viewing angles of 170, 127 and 90 degrees, 2. 1280x960 pixels at 30 or 48 frames per second and with only one possible viewing angle of 170 degrees, 3. HD 720p at 30 or 60 frames per second with viewing angles of 170, 127 and 90 degrees, 4.848x480 pixels at 60 or 120 frames per second with a viewing angle of 170 degrees.
For taking photos, the following modes are available: 1. at 170 degrees, you can shoot in the maximum quality at 11MP, 2. at 127 degrees, the maximum quality can be set to 8MP, 3.at 90 degrees, the resolution is set only up to 5MP.
Among the photo modes are: single shot, burst of 10 frames per second, interval shooting and semi-automatic timer.
The video captured with the GoPro HD Hero 2 camera turned out to be quite sharp and detailed. The clips are distinguished by high contrast and bright colors. I was also pleased with the smooth change of exposure during sudden changes in lighting. Although color noise appears in the frame when shooting, indoors or in the evening, it is worth noting that their number is not much more than that of modern compact camcorders.
The photo has the same qualities. If the picture is taken outdoors during the day, the quality is more than sufficient. 
The GoPro HD Hero 2 is a camera that is unique in its capabilities and uniqueness in its kind of application. Capturing extreme snowboarding, parasailing or cycling highlights, there is no better camera than the Hero 2.
