You can split the check into two stages. At the first stage, we will check the basic functions, on which the operability of the device as a whole depends, and then the secondary ones, on which the quality of the images obtained, the speed of operation, and so on depends.
First stage
- Examine the camera for scratches, damages on the body, lens;
- All buttons should be pressed without effort, do not sink, do not play, and so on, the same applies to the wheels;
- Turn on the device, check the operation of the control keys;
- Take multiple shots in different lighting conditions to test the built-in flash's performance;
- Focus on a variety of subjects while listening to the sound of the camera. Ideally, you shouldn't hear anything other than the quiet hum of built-in mechanisms. Crackling, or worse, is very bad;
- Download all captured photos to your computer and review them carefully;
- Finally, do not forget to check the scope of delivery of the device. This information is included in the user manual.
Second phase
It is more complex and requires a little more time.
- We check the optics for correct focus and the absence of front or back focus. To do this, put a ruler on the table and focus on the specified mark. Then we look at the computer to see if the autofocus has made any mistakes;
- We check the optical subsystem for distortion. Often, when photographing various objects around them, distortions appear in the pictures, such as purple outlines, blurred areas, sun hares and other artifacts. Of course, you need to shoot for verification in the maximum resolution.
- Checking for hot pixels. To do this, we photograph several monotonous pages in the same lighting. After that, we carefully review the pictures on the computer. In this case, the resolution should also be maximum.
- You also need to check the uniformity of filling the frame. On incorrectly working matrices, the resolution may change depending on the position on the frame. We photograph a page with text and check this parameter.
- It is advisable to carry out the first stage of verification immediately upon purchase, no matter where it will take place - in the store or when the goods are delivered to your home by courier.
