Netbook Review - ASUS Eee PC 1015PN

The Asus Eee PC 1015PN is the second netbook after the Eee PC 1015PEM with a dual-core processor - Intel Atom N550, but the new product also has integrated graphics - NVIDIA ION 2. This is perhaps the best combination for compact 10-inch netbooks today, which in theory should provide both good performance and decent battery life at the same time. However, this is only in theory, let's see if everything is so good in practice.

Appearance and ergonomics

In appearance, this 10-inch netbook is practically no different from a dozen other rounded-thin models from the "SeaShell" line. There are not only red - but also black, blue and white versions. At the same time, in the red, black and blue versions - the lid is trimmed with soft-touch plastic, pleasant to the touch, while the white version is glossy. The base of the case is made of black textured plastic, the 48 watt / hour battery protrudes slightly beyond its limits. The netbook weighs only 1.27 kg and measures 262 x 178 x 23.6-36.4 mm.

As for the connectors, on the right side there are: a card reader, audio outputs, two USB ports, a Kensington lock slot, and a network LAN connector. On the left side of the case you will find: HDMI (not available in all configurations) and VGA outputs, a third USB port and a charging socket.

The working surface is finished with plastic of the main color with the same soft-touch effect, and the screen border and the space between the keys are soiled black gloss. In the upper left corner of the keyboard unit there is a slider for switching power saving modes, as well as a button for disabling wireless modules. The island keyboard layout is too tight, especially in the lower right corner, it will be convenient to work with miniature arrows and type punctuation marks - not for everyone. The touchpad of the touchpad is separated from the rest of the working area - only by small silver inserts, so it's not always possible to find it the first time.

Functionality

The general designation "1015P" hides several models at once, differing in the level of equipment. The variation "1015PN" that has fallen into our hands is perhaps the most interesting. It is equipped with a dual-core processor - Intel Atom N550, as well as a discrete graphics card - NVIDIA ION 2, which allows you to play FullHD-video in 1080p quality. Naturally, a 10-inch screen with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels will not be enough for this, the image will have to be output to the TV via the HDMI-out. Testing the device showed good results, for example, in PCMark Vantage the netbook scored 1750 points, and the performance index in Windows was 3.2 points.

The device worked from a full battery charge - 2.5 hours in maximum load mode, as well as about - five hours in reading mode, which is quite good. The screen with a matte finish pleased us with good image quality and an extended brightness range, which ranges from 30 to 180 cd / m2 (candela per square meter). The glossy working panel, if handled carelessly, quickly becomes covered with a "web" of small scratches. Perhaps the only thing that can cause complaints is a bright blue indicator placed in the upper right corner of the keypad, when working in a dark room - it can distract from the screen.

conclusions

ASUS Eee PC 1015PN is a thin and light 10-inch netbook with a rather interesting design. When buying, be sure to pay attention to the model index, since they may look the same on the outside - they will differ quite significantly on the inside.
