HOW TO CHOOSE A Jigsaw - how to choose for home use, which jigsaw is better to buy

I was looking for an inexpensive but powerful jigsaw. To decide which jigsaw to choose, I read a bunch of forums and reviewed a lot of reviews on YouTube. Video bloggers and sellers repeat the same thing: "Molded sole ..., rubberized handles ...". All this is nonsense. It doesn't matter at all what kind of grip or sole the power tool has. The main parameters are the power and quality of the file fixation. I've been working with wood for 25 years, so I know what I'm talking about.

There are no perfect models that cut straight. Like it or not, there will be troubles. And the point here is not that the hands of the master grow out of the back seat. The quality of the saw is largely dependent on the blade (file). The more expensive the blade, the better it is sharpened, which means it cuts smoother. The main thing is not to rush anywhere. As they say: hurry up, make people laugh. And with thoughtful work, the tool cuts better. It is better to buy a powerful jigsaw for your home - 650-700 watts or more.

Found one. The wonderful thing: 800 watts, variable speed. I was glad that the feed roller does not swing, it sits perfectly rigidly. But then it turned out that there are two small defects:

  1. the roller staggers a little back and forth;
  2. the spring holds the stem weakly.

And the tool cuts well - a four. It is a pity that the stock sometimes fails. Once, and the file is past the roller, or even on its side - in one direction or the other. Well, I don't like the distance to the sole (cutting level) - 10 mm. This is very high.

How to choose a jigsaw: 3 important parameters

The most important element of jigsaws is the file fixing system. Look at it when choosing a tool.

  • The first thing to look out for is the feed roller. There should be no backlashes up and down. Otherwise, the clamped file will dangle, move left and right, back and forth. Because of such "dances" and the cut turns out a complete g ***.
  • The roller should be as close to the cutting surface as possible. The closer it is, the tighter it holds the file. So that you understand, 5 mm is already a lot.
  • Thirdly, the rod itself (spring), which feeds the file, must be so powerful that it is impossible to move it with your fingers. Otherwise, the clamping system will unfasten over time by itself, and the file will fly out. Or "walk", standing on one side.

Do not get fooled by advertising and do not take the word of the consultant. Keep an eye on your electric jigsaw in places where you can touch and see everything yourself. Memorize the model, then at home on the Internet type in the search and look for the cheapest option in online stores.

How to choose a jigsaw for home use: sharing my experience

Some praise Fiolent, others argue which jigsaw is better than Bosch or Makita. I don't like jigsaws that have to be held by the body. They are rude, professional, not very good for homework. I love jigsaws with a staple handle. I bought Makita.

He suited me in all respects.

  • The depth of the feed roll is 3 mm - practically at the cutting surface.
  • The rod and roller do not swing, the spring holds nuclear.
  • And what is important - a smooth start. The saw gradually enters the wood, it remains only to calmly hold the tool and work slowly. To get a clear cut, I do not press, the tool cuts itself. It gets a little off in some places, but overall it's the best tool I've had.

Unfortunately, I chose an expensive tool. I bought in the region of six to seven thousand hryvnia. It was a pity to give my hard-earned money, but what can you do. A miser pays twice - I have already verified this the hard way. And this jigsaw has never failed. I have been working with him for about two years.

And I advise you: do not skimp on power tools, check carefully and choose the best you can buy.
